The latest update to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate includes a new Pokemon-like game that is receiving widespread critical acclaim upon its release. Cassette Beasts, a new addition to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, has been met with universal acclaim from reviewers.
Cassette Beasts is clearly influenced by the Pokemon series created by Game Freak and Nintendo, but it aims to offer its own unique spin on the formula. Cassette Beasts, much like Pokemon, is a game about gathering monsters and utilizing them in strategic turn-based fights.
Cassette Beasts differ in that the player character can become one of the monsters. The popular Pokemon fusion fan art concept has been translated into a playable mechanic, allowing players to fuse two monsters together to create an entirely new creature.
There have been numerous attempts to replicate the success of Pokemon, but none have met with the same level of success as Cassette Beasts. There aren’t many reviews for Cassette Beasts out there just yet, but the ones that are have been really positive.
Critics have been so enthusiastic about Cassette Beasts that they have awarded it a perfect score of 10 out of 10, with some even going so far as to suggest the game is superior to Pokemon. The good news is that anyone with a PC Game Pass membership (either on its own or bundled with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) can try the game immediately.

Xbox Game Pass members who would rather play Cassette Beasts on consoles, take note: the game’s console release date has been set. The PC version of Cassette Beasts is presently playable, but the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X versions won’t be released until May 25. However, if the early praise for Cassette Beasts is any indication, we can rest assured that the wait will be worthwhile.
