There was a period when the studio eliminated certain features from the vanilla release of Skyrim before launch, however, a recent vampire mod restores some of the bloodsucking components that were removed.
Since Bethesda is said to be developing The Elder Scrolls 6, many players are curious about the franchise’s future. With no sign of a new entry in the epic fantasy series for quite some time, players are making the most of the fifth game in the series.
But that’s not always a horrible thing to hear. The enormous settings and detailed backstories of Bethesda’s role-playing games have made the company famous. Only those parts were used in the video games.
There has been a history of material removal from The Elder Scrolls games. While this is to be expected given the constraints on development time, many fans wonder what their favorite games would be like if these omitted features were included.
Thanks to the hard work of the modding community, at least one feature beloved by Skyrim players is back. PC Gamer reports that Nexus Mods user social anxiety has released a mod for TES5 called “Bloodhunt,” which adds back in some of the vampire content that was removed by the developer.
It also improves upon the original experience in a few key ways. The description provides an overview of the content, focusing on the features that were planned for the official expansion of Dawnguard before Bethesda scrapped the project.
The mod’s creator claims it was an “easy restore,” reverting changes like giving vampires their old clothes back and changing the time so that 6:00 a.m. is deemed dawn rather than 5 a.m. when it is still dark. The creator also claims to have changed the “hatred mechanic.”
The Elder Scrolls games have made vampires popular by giving players the chance to transform into one. Vampires in Skyrim and the rest of the TES have the same abilities as their mythological and cultural counterparts, including the ability to feed off of their victims to become stronger and immune to sunlight.
The game’s continued success since its 2011 release is due in no small part to fans like social anxiety. Many of the available mods for Skyrim go to considerable efforts to fix issues or add new features to the game.
It’s no surprise that players continue to flock to this icy corner of Tamriel, what with all the alterations made by hand.
PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox One S now have access to The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim – Anniversary Edition.
