Final Fantasy XVI’s sales were in the range of Square Enix’s expectations according to @gibbogame :
– Considering the PS5 overall performance “it was quite good”
– They already fully expensed the cost of the game
– Future sales are all profit pic.twitter.com/wCFmE6pDoa— Final Fantasy XVI Hub (@FFXVI_Hub) August 7, 2023
The section that is sure to cause some confusion, on the other hand? Kiryu pointed the finger at the “slow adoption” of the PS5 as the reason for Final Fantasy 16’s difficulties. Despite the fact that Sony’s current-generation console has recently broken records left and right, this is the case.
Naturally, this wouldn’t be the first time that Square Enix has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of one of its products.

Although, as was said, it had previously appeared like Final Fantasy 16 would avoid such criticism, given the company’s rather upbeat message back in July, the publisher has a long history of declaring that its sales expectations haven’t been realized. This has been the case for the entirety of the publisher’s history.
Square Enix’s message even went to the extent of saying: “A lot of people who own a PS5 are also getting Final Fantasy 16.” So, it seems like Square Enix is repeating its previous behaviour.
