The third-person roguelike shooter Returnal from Housemarque was released on April 30, 2021, for the PlayStation 5. Selene Vassos, an astronaut who landed on the planet Atropos, is the main character of the game. She is looking for the signal known as “White Shadow.” The psychological horror game was favourably praised upon release and centres on the idea of becoming trapped in a time loop.

Since the launch of the platform, the game was the PS5’s first exclusive release. Before the official release, there were multiple leaks of information about a PC version. At The Game Awards, the developer formally announced the PC release. Climax Studios, who collaborated with Housemarque on Resogun and Dead Nation, is in charge of the PC port.

If you are unfamiliar with what a roguelike game is, it is typically a game in which you must navigate a series of levels while attempting to survive as long as you can. If you pass away, you have to restart everything from scratch. Because the levels are procedurally created, even after numerous tries throughout your playing, each gameplay run is fresh.
It becomes clear how seamlessly this Returnal’s gameplay and plot are integrated with this roguelike concept. When Selene dies, she goes back to the spaceship that crashed at the level’s start. After that, you have to play through the level again, but each time is a little bit different.
Selene detects something unusual happening as soon as the game starts. She discovers that she no longer has her sidearm as soon as she lands on Atropos. She discovers a corpse with her sidearm close by after doing more investigating. The body shares the same distinguishing characteristics as Selene’s spacecraft.
