Although it’s not yet known whether it will be a part of E3 or stand-alone, Xbox has stated that its “yearly Showcase” will return this summer.
Xbox held its inaugural Developer Direct yesterday, highlighting Forza Motorsport and The Elder Scrolls Online, announcing the release dates for Redfall and Minecraft Legends, and lowering the shadow on Hi-Fi Rush. Xbox already announced a separate direct for Starfield, but it now appears that the game will also receive a second demonstration this summer.
According to GamesRadar+, Xbox summarised all of the announcements made during the demonstration on Xbox Wire following the Developer Direct. Near the end of the piece, Xbox reiterates its ambitions for a Starfield in-depth exploration before announcing that its “yearly Showcase” will also be returning to Los Angeles later this summer.
According to the Xbox Wire post, “As we previously stated, a stand-alone show is in the works in order to provide enough time for a thorough examination of Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield. Additionally, our teams are putting a lot of effort into their work and are excited to share even more of what is coming up with our fans when we visit Los Angeles for our yearly Showcase this summer.”
In the post, Microsoft makes no mention of whether the showcase will be an independent event like it has been in the past or if it will be a part of E3 or Summer Game Fest. Since E3 will be back this year after missing it in 2022, it’s possible that Microsoft will hold its own conference in conjunction with the event.
It’s unclear if Microsoft will feel the need to participate in E3, but as recent years have shown, other businesses can get by with their own presentations without taking part in E3. However, considering that Microsoft has participated in every E3 in previous years, Xbox is probably going to make a presence there.
