There are so many iconic parts of The Last of Us that fans were looking forward to seeing on the HBO show, but there were just as many that they were dreading. One of those parts was the winter part, but the show seems to have left out the scene we were all waiting for.
When We Are in Need, the most recent episode, has a scene where Ellie goes hunting for food. This scene makes a reference to the games but then changes the whole outcome. This time, the cute white rabbit that gets killed in the game stays alive, and Ellie falls flat on her face instead.
If you thought the scene where Ellie goes out to find food looked familiar, there’s a good reason for that. Years ago, the same part of the game went viral. Or, I should say that a streamer’s response to it spread like wildfire.

But when we saw the same rabbit on the show, things turned out very differently. Ellie does chase it since it’s the only food she can get, but this time the rabbit wins. Ellie trips, giving the bun enough time to run away, hopefully not into the path of David’s pack of creepy bastards, who were also hunting nearby.

So, there it is. Ten years after the first game came out, the rabbit got its own back. This is sad because it means we won’t be able to see that great reaction to the kill that the game gave us again, but hopefully, the bun went to a better place. I mean as far away as possible from what happened in that episode. It was hard to watch.
