Starfield’s release date, September 6, 2023, has been set in stone after several setbacks and much anticipation.
A new teaser movie, which can be seen on the official Bethesda YouTube page, reveals the release date and begins with a narrator welcoming us onto a space station. He uses the foreboding phrase “showing signals of another one of those major anomalies” as a segue into the announcement of the revised release date.
“We have poured ourselves into this game and even I’m surprised how much we can pour – it is large,” game director Todd Howard said following this new teaser clip. “We know you’ve waited a long time to play something new from us. Believe it or not, we’re kind of the same – we miss it. We really cannot wait for you all to play it, so thanks and we’ll see you soon.”
Starfield Will Host A Direct
To prepare us for the game’s eventual release, Starfield will host a dedicated Direct on June 11 to look at the game’s current state. After three months, assuming no additional setbacks occur, we’ll be able to give it a try for ourselves.

The release of Starfield was previously delayed from May of this year until the first half of 2023, with some anticipating its release as early as April of that year. Fans were left to wonder as rumors spread due to the lack of a firm release date. Since the original date on November 11, 2022, which was supposed to coincide with Skyrim’s anniversary, this is our first date since it appears to have been moved further off.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer explained that the delay was due to his past mistakes of “shipping games too early” and that the team needed more time to create the game they wanted. He also declared in May last year that Xbox would “continue to try to better meet those expectations” after delays with Starfield and Redfall, so it seems probable that this November release date will stand.
