Today, Microsoft unveiled new tools for the classroom that use AI. As kids get ready for a world that will be even more digitally advanced, the company believes that its new “Learning Accelerators” will help pupils improve their speaking and math skills while also making teachers’ jobs a little easier.
A brand-new AI classroom tool for teachers is called Speaker Progress. By “streamlining the process of designing, assessing, and analysing speaking and presentation assignments for students, groups, and classes,” according to Microsoft, it saves them time. It can offer succinct descriptions of presentation-based abilities while emphasising areas that need improvement. It also enables teachers to listen to student recordings, determine their requirements, and monitor development.
It will be a companion to Speaker Coach, a current service that Microsoft introduced in 2021 and offers individualised speech coaching and feedback. For instance, it employs AI to provide suggestions in real-time on pitch, pace, and filler words.
In a Microsoft launch video, an unnamed teacher noted, “Speaker Coach is one of those products that kind of was a lightbulb tool for a lot of students that I’ve worked with.” “Speaker Coach greatly helps our pupils and even benefits us as adults because it allows them to practise and receive real-time feedback.”
Microsoft’s AI math tools are a response to the pandemic’s disastrous effects on math test scores. Problems are broken down by Math Coach, who also guides students through the procedures to solve them while fostering critical thinking. The teacher-focused companion application, Math Progress, assists teachers in creating practise questions and giving more useful feedback.
According to the manufacturer, the functions complement one another in that Math Coach leverages Math Progress teacher feedback to create new lessons. Additionally, it claims that schools may track progress and more effectively accomplish their objectives by using the products’ overall math fluency data.
In Microsoft Teams for Education, Speaker Progress, Math Coach, and Math Progress will debut during the 2023–2024 academic year. Speaker Coach is now accessible in Teams and PowerPoint.
