Following the departure of main developer Brian Waggoner, it was earlier today claimed that Crystal Dynamics was speeding up its preparations to stop supporting Marvel’s Avengers. A formal statement is anticipated as early as next week.
Now that the developer has announced that support for the game would end on September 30 of this year, it appears that they have also hastened their announcement.
Additionally, Update 2.8, which debuts on March 31 of this year, will be the last round of new material added to the game before support stops, according to Crystal Dynamics.
The creator emphasizes that beyond September 30, both single-player and multiplayer will still be accessible because they are working hard to maintain the game viable for as long as they can.
In a statement published on Marvel’s Avengers website, Crystal Dynamics thanks players for their support and says that, starting today, all of the game’s cosmetic Marketplace, Challenge Card, and Shipment content will be free to download for current owners.

According to the statement, the developer is “thanking our community by letting everyone experience the breadth and depth of material in Marvel’s Avengers” by making all of this cosmetic content available for free.
Everyone in our community has a strong connection to these individuals and their tales, so we are aware that this is upsetting news. “We are incredibly appreciative that you joined us on this experience.
Your enthusiasm for Marvel’s Avengers, expressed through your amazing Photo Mod pictures, threads guessing who our future Heroes might be, and Twitch streams, has greatly contributed to the life and vibrancy of our game.”
In related news, it was stated that the upcoming Tomb Raider game would be revealed later this year in the same source that said Marvel’s Avengers development would end. Given that it has now been established that the report’s sources are reliable, it appears that the likelihood of Lara Croft appearing soon has just grown substantially.
