This hotel, which opened last year, is nestled within a vast 42-acre development known as the Bay View campus. The hotel, which can accommodate up to 4,000 people, includes a fitness centre, free breakfast, and other amenities. In an inaugural offer that will remain until September 30, Google employees can get rooms for $90 per night and enjoy a variety of exclusive amenities.
While Google depicts this as a major benefit, not all Googlers are delighted. Some employees believe that the entire notion is a clever technique of forcing them to reinvest a portion of their earnings. An internal forum was rife with criticisms and worries; one observer noted that even the discounted fee is still higher than the rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Google spokesperson Ryan Ramon defended the initiative, saying it allows the business to “take advantage of our space and facilities.” The computer behemoth went on to say that such discounts on services, entertainment, and lodging are a regular component of their employee benefit structure.
