Ex-Twitter Employees Are Puzzled By Elon Musk’s Discontinued Laptops. TWITTER FOR ELON MUSK needs every dollar. With $13 billion in debt to lenders who backed his purchase, millions of dollars in allegedly unpaid rent and bills, and more, there is “still much work to do” if the firm is to avoid bankruptcy, Musk stated last month.
Ex-Twitter Employees Are Puzzled By Elon Musk’s Discontinued Laptops
A recent auction by Twitter sold furnishings and equipment from its San Francisco headquarters, including USB dongles and keyboards, for an estimated $1.5 million. However, the corporation has abandoned glittering items worth tens of thousands, or perhaps even hundreds of thousands of dollars, in the houses of former employees.
The newest conundrum in a takeover marked by failed product launches, abrupt policy changes, and postponed payouts is that some workers laid off or dismissed by Musk are perplexed as to why Twitter hasn’t bothered to collect their work laptops.
A California software developer named Eric Frohnhoefer claims he has not heard a word regarding returning his company-issued Apple MacBook Pro M1 Pro laptop from 2021. He was sacked in November after challenging Musk on Twitter. It is still in a closet, he claims. His laptop was digitally locked, making it useless, just like the computers of thousands of remote Twitter workers that Musk has fired or allowed to resign since early November.
His model is still worth roughly $1,000 in refurbished condition, and new ones cost twice that much. Frohnhoefer does not feel obligated to return the device to Musk and is not in a hurry to do so. He says, “I’m content to let it stand there and be a brick.
Two further ex-Tweeps claim they are less at ease keeping Elon Musk’s pricey paperweights in their possession because they are among the employees who are still promised severance and they worry it would cause further delays in their payments or perhaps future legal issues. One of those sources claims that bolder souls have talked about trying to break their laptop’s lock code or wiping and resetting the device on ex-employee chat groups.
An inquiry for feedback from Twitter received no response.
