Avatar: The Way Of Water Is Now The Fourth-highest-grossing Movie Of All Time Since its release a little more than a month ago, Avatar: The Way of Water has continued to rule the box office and is currently the fourth-highest-grossing movie of all time.
Avatar: The Way of Water recently outperformed Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ enormous $2.071 billion worldwide box office total, according to Variety.
This achievement comes shortly after the movie surpassed Avengers: Infinity War as the second-highest-grossing movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and became only the sixth picture to earn $2 billion at the box office worldwide.
Avatar: The Way of Water, currently in fourth place, now turns its attention to Titanic, which it needs to exceed to go up to the third place and is around $120 million away from doing so.
Director James Cameron may now finally exhale with ease after publicly stating that his eagerly anticipated Avatar sequel would “…had to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history” in order to break even. “Your threshold is that. You have reached break even.”
Cameron is now the proud director of three of the top four films in history, including Avatar, Titanic, and Avatar: The Way of Water. As if that weren’t reason enough to celebrate for Cameron.
It’s difficult to watch Titanic without feeling emotionally spent afterward. That didn’t, however, deter moviegoers from frequenting the theatre again and time again.
Despite the popularity of Avatar: The Way of Water, director James Cameron is already giving out details about the impending third movie, including the removal of Jake Sully as the narrator and the arrival of the hostile Fire Na’vi clan.
