Apple May Have Abandoned Plans For A New HomePod Mini: You could be forgiven for thinking that it would make sense for Apple to begin development on a new HomePod tiny now that the HomePod has been made available again this week. After all, the business has not disclosed any plans to release an updated version of the device’s hardware since it was first introduced in 2020, and the market for smart speakers is currently one of the most competitive in the technology industry. Despite this, it would appear that no such upgrade is currently being developed.
Apple May Have Abandoned Plans For A New HomePod Mini
Mark Gurman, a reporter for Bloomberg, expressed his belief in the most recent edition of his Power On newsletter that the business is not “actively working” on a new HomePod mini. He makes this statement in reference to the second generation of the HomePod, saying that it “doesn’t feature any substantial new functions that aren’t already in the $99 mini,” which means that there isn’t a clear reason to update the model.
Because this is where “real improvements probably need to be made,” Gurman argues that Apple is more likely to enhance the mini by delivering software upgrades that address weaknesses regarding Siri and app integration. This is because “real improvements probably need to be made” in these areas.

To that end, Apple only recently activated a temperature and humidity sensor that has been inactive in the gadget ever since it was released. This was accomplished by updating the software that runs the HomePod mini. Gurman highlights the fact that the newly reintroduced HomePod incorporates technologies that were previously unique to the HomePod small. These features, which include support for ultra-wideband and Thread connectivity.
Although a new HomePod mini might not be available for several years, it’s probable that Apple has other smart home products in the works. In August, Gurman revealed that the company was working on both a smart display as well as a gadget that integrates the functions of an Apple TV, camera, and HomePod into a single product offering. At the time, he stated that these may perhaps arrive by the beginning of 2024.
