Apple Is Probably Designing A Less Expensive Mixed Reality Headset: According to Bloomberg and The Information, Apple is already working on a more cheap version of its as-yet-unannounced mixed reality headgear. This information comes from sources within Apple. According to prior rumours regarding the long-rumored mixed reality device, it is estimated that it will cost approximately $3,000. This is approximately double the price of the Quest Pro headset that Meta introduced the previous year.

It has been reported that Apple’s engineers are working on developing a version that is more wallet-friendly and is closer to the price of the Quest Pro. They are already discussing strategies to achieve this goal, such as using cheaper components, and they are reportedly working on developing this version.
Although the main product will include internal displays with a resolution of 4K for each eye, the cheaper version of the product will most likely employ displays with a lower resolution. Engineers working for the company are mulling over the possibility of employing fewer cameras and slower CPUs, both of which would reduce or eliminate the requirement for the use of internal fans.
Instead of including a motor that can automatically adjust the user’s field of view in the cheaper headset, Apple might request that consumers manually adjust their field of view instead. It is possible that it will decide not to instal its proprietary H2 wireless chip in the gadget, which would enable it to work more effectively with AirPods as well. According to a story that was published by Bloomberg earlier this month, the tech giant is working on its own Bluetooth and WiFi chip to replace Broadcom’s by the year 2025.

According to The Information, Apple may also decide to use that in-house chip in order to prevent a third-party company from having an effect on the device’s pricing. According to the sources, development of the more affordable mixed reality headset is still in its very early phases, and Apple has not yet built a prototype that is functional. Bloomberg claims that the majority of Apple’s 1,000-person Technology Development Group is working on the two headgear, and that the corporation may deliver it either next year or in 2025.
The Technology Development Group is responsible for developing Apple’s augmented reality products. However, as a consequence of Apple’s decision to pursue this dual-device strategy, the company is said to have shelved its intentions to introduce lightweight augmented reality glasses. The company’s original goal was to develop AR glasses that may one day replace the iPhone, but it has since pulled back its work on the project in order to focus on other priorities. It is currently unknown whether or not the augmented reality glasses will ever go on sale.
As for Apple’s flagship mixed reality headset, it was previously reported by Bloomberg that the company intends to formally reveal it this spring before the World Wide Developers Conference in June.
