The original The Last of Us was remade just last year—a finely honed port of the original game for the PS5, with extra features. There are references to the sequel that came out two years earlier and hints that the character Abby, who doesn’t appear until the second movie, will play a significant role in the franchise.
A picture that can be seen at the mall during the Left Behind DLC was brought to our attention by the user appropriately titled AbbyStanAccount. The advertisement features a blonde woman exercising, with the words “coming soon” across the top. Many have speculated that the inclusion of the ad, coupled with the fact that Abby is a toned blonde woman, is a throwback reference to the character.
The image added for the remake strongly suggests it was a hat tip to Abby long before she was formally introduced to The Last of Us timeline, which may seem like a stretch to some of you. The AbbyStanAccount also mentions several new posters in the mall that look like Owen and Abby. These aren’t the only changes made to the original game in light of information revealed in the sequel.

People Who Have Never Engaged In Game Play
For those who haven’t played the games and don’t want to be spoiled for Sunday’s adaption finale, I’ll tell you now: the rest of this piece contains major spoilers. A surgeon is prepared to operate on Ellie, and his model has been updated to reflect the appearance of the figure introduced in the previous episode. His body is left precisely as Abby finds it, marking the beginning of her search for vengeance against Joel.
In the TV adaptation of The Last of Us, Abby has yet to appear, and we won’t get to see the live-action version of the character until season two at the earliest (unless HBO pulls a Marvel-style credits scene). Fans have imagined Florence Pugh as Abby, while some think the show’s producers have already settled on Shannon Berry.
