In July 2023, Darkwood and When The Past Was Around will be free for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members as part of Microsoft’s Games with Gold program.
Many people know that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate combines the vast Game Pass library with the features of Xbox Live, including Games with Gold and other advantages. DLC for Hi-Fi Rush, discounts at Walmart, and access to services like Peacock have all been former additions to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate boasts so much content that gamers can claim more than games. Yet, gaming will always be its primary identifier, when the Past Was Around is accessible from July 16 to August 15, while Darkwood, a survival horror game, is available from July 1 to July 31.

In Darkwood, the day-and-night cycle is integral to the game’s survival horror formula. During the day, players can venture out into Darkwood in search of supplies, but at night, they must hunker down, hide, and defend themselves using whatever they have gathered. When The Past Was Around, a point-and-click adventure game about Eda and Owl’s love and loss, is on the opposite end of the spectrum.
Xbox Games With Gold List for July 2023
- Darkwood: Available July 1 to 31
- When the Past was Around: Available July 16 to August 15
However, two other games are now available on Xbox Games with Gold until July 1 and July 16. You only have until June 30 to check out Adios, but you’ll have until July 15 to check out The Vale: Shadow of the Crown before it’s replaced with When the Past Was Around.

The Vale is an audio-based action-adventure game whereby an enemy’s breath, two weapons clashing, and more are finely detailed to immerse players in the genuine moment, or as simple as it can be anyhow. In contrast, Adios is about a Kansas pig farmer trying to cut connections with the mob.
Xbox Game Pass is widely regarded as the most outstanding and most user-friendly service due to its extensive library of games and other features. Despite potential flaws and critics, it’s hard to argue with its widespread appeal.
