Assist Jin in obtaining the grappling hook, which will allow him to successfully storm Castle Kaneda and end the first act of Ghost of Tsushima.
Most of the first act of Ghost of Tsushima is spent recruiting reinforcements to assist him to storm Castle Kaneda, saving his uncle Lord Shimura, and sending Khotun Khan back into the sea. This strategy appears to be going swimmingly by the time the players reach “The Iron Hook.” Jin has secured the support of Lady Masako, Sensei Ishikawa, and the Straw Hat Ronin for the impending attack. The only thing standing between Jin and the castle walls is Taka’s vow to forge the tool he needs at Komastu Forge.
‘The Iron Hook’ starts right around here. Jin has to have faith that Taka will deliver despite the intense heat in the forge. With Ryuzo’s introduction, the stage is set for a major rivalry in Ghost of Tsushima, making this a crucial assignment for the first act.
Where to Begin in Ghost of Tsushima’s “The Iron Hook”
You can start “The Iron Hook” by finding Yuna in Komatsu Forge. From the gathering spot, you can see the forge, which is where she is located. You can tell that Yuna’s statement at the end of “Hammer and Forge” had an impact on the locals by talking to her.
Jin has been dubbed “The Ghost” by his peers. Although Jin is not keen on the idea, Yuna sees potential advantages. Keep up with Yuna to find out what Taka has been up to.
Get Access to Taka’s Grappling Hook
Objectives:
Travel with Yuna to the Forge
Jin tells Yuna about the people he convinced to join their cause as they walk to the forge. Despite her deep appreciation for Jin’s assistance in saving Taka, Yuna is making it known that she does not wish to aid in the rescue of Lord Shimura. It’s purely a matter of trying to keep Taka out of harm’s way.
The Iron Hook, a Ghost of Tsushima Strategy Guide
The grappling hook can be obtained by contacting Taka in the forge. In the midst of Taka’s explanation, Jin is interrupted by Ryuzo’s voice.
Ryuzo and Straw Hats ride to Fort Yatate
Head to the Fort:
Speak with Ryuzo
Travel with Ryuzo
The Mongols, as Ryuzo relates, took away his most capable soldiers. If they don’t get them back, he says Jin, then Lord Shimura won’t get away from captivity, too. When considering this, Jin realizes he must aid his pal.
Before continuing on to save the remainder of the Straw Hat Ronin, Jin and Ryuzo will meet up with the others.
Travel to Fort Yatate with the Straw Hats
The group will be riding closer to the fort when the game suddenly cuts to a new location. Jin observes that simply approaching the front gate of the fort will result in failure. With his new tool in mind, he decides to sneak in by scaling the cliffs.
Reach the cliffside
Grapple up the cliffside
Jin must utilize the grappling hook he recently acquired to slingshot from one perch to the next. Jin will typically find a branch or stump with a red and white rope knotted around it as a grappling point when he has to traverse space. Use the hook by jumping and pressing R2. If you stick to the trail up the cliff, you can’t possibly go wrong.
Before jumping, keep an eye out for the R2 symbol, which indicates that there are two consecutive grappling spots. Stumps protruding from the rock face are a feature of certain larger climbing walls. Pressing R2 after launching off the foothold initiates a grapple.
Attack Fort Yatate and Free Straw Hat Prisoners
If Jin climbs to the top of the cliff, he will have a commanding view of Fort Yatate below. Jin can use the grappling hook on any pole, so keep an eye out for ones that look like telephone or power poles.
Free the Straw Hat prisoners (six total)
Jin can play up the ‘Ghost’ element, sneaking his way through the fort undetected, or he can attack the first Mongol he sees, igniting a large battle. Both routes should be carefully avoided due to the guard towers’ archers. Listen carefully for any approaching Mongols.
Jin needs just follow the sound of the inmates’ singing to find them. Two of the Straw Hats are locked up in a bamboo cage near the fort’s guard tower. There will be two cages here, with a bear residing in the second one. Players can cause some confusion by shooting the lock on the left cage before letting out the first two Straw Hats. It’s expected that the freed bear would murder at least two Mongols before it’s put to death.
Just beyond the first enclosure are two more cages housing Straw Hats. A trail can be found just beyond the watchtower, leading down some rocky ledges. Jin will be able to scale a sizable boulder and survey the area, gaining a clear view of the bamboo pens beyond. Get rid of the local Mongols and set free the last four Straw Hats.
Clear the Fort of Mongols:
Defeat the Mongols
Almost all of the remaining Mongols will congregate below the watchtower, close to where Jin would enter the fort. There will be many Mongols, each with their own unique traits, and one who will serve as a leader. While facing tougher challenges, even with the Straw Hats’ aid, Jin can easily become overwhelmed. Use the formidable Ghost weapons provided by the Ghost of Tsushima.
Once the Mongols have been driven out, you can go in and steal the fort’s upgrading supplies. In addition, the Mongol Artifact can be found hanging in a tent here, and players who want to know how the Ghost of Tsushima ends should collect it.
Signal Ryuzo
You may usually find the Straw Hats congregating by the bottom gate. At this point, Jin must send a message to Ryuzo to inform him that the initial phase of the mission was a success.
Defeat the Final Group of Monols:
When Jin gives the signal to Ryuzo, the fort’s inner gate will swing open. In response to a command, Jin can undertake a standoff. There is a sizable contingent of Mongols here, but with so many fighters at our disposal, they shouldn’t present too much of a problem.
After the battle is over, Jin and Ryuzo comment on how bizarre it is that the Mongols fed the Straw Hat Prisoners instead of beating or killing them. Jin appears to be more open to investigating the Mongols’ demands. But Ryuzo seemed content with their current state of survival and security.
On the PS5, you may now play Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. Ghost of Tsushima’s standard edition is playable on the PS4 and PS5.
