Sega introduced Sonic Central 2023, which will give fans a glimpse into the near future of its long-running brand featuring the iconic blue hedgehog. The upcoming broadcast follows Sonic Central 2022, Sega’s third such event.
Despite being a relatively new phenomenon, Sonic Central has already established itself as the most important annual gathering for Sonic-related news. The show’s first episode revealed the best-selling 3D Sonic game of all time, among several other disclosures.

Last year’s presentation didn’t disappoint either, with a sneak peek at the Netflix-produced Sonic Prime, new information about Sonic Origins, and over 20 more surprises. The show’s third instalment will air on Friday, June 23, at 8 a.m. PST.
Sonic fans can watch Sonic Central 2023 on YouTube and Twitch as usual. Sega provided no specifics regarding the broadcast’s content other than a “sneak peek” at some upcoming Sonic projects, which is standard procedure.
Regardless, Sonic Superstars appears to be a foregone conclusion for the event, not least because this new Sonic the Hedgehog co-op game was only unveiled at the 2023 Summer Game Fest in early June.

Where to Watch Sonic Central 2023
- YouTube channel for Sonic the Hedgehog
- Twitch channel for Sonic
The broadcast date coincides with the 32nd anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis. Therefore a commemorative announcement is highly likely for the next Sonic Central. Sonic Team chief Takashi Iizuka hinted that 2023 would be a big year for Sonic.
Still, other than the Sonic above Superstars statement, the firm hasn’t divulged much about the franchise’s near-term plans. As a result, everything may alter with the June 23 event. Given Sega’s impending acquisition of Rovio, some fans may be expecting an announcement of an Angry Birds crossover with Sonic at the 2023 Sonic Central.

However, that expectation is somewhat implausible because Sega has yet to complete the $776 million transaction; even though the acquisition is expected to go through without any regulatory challenges, Sega is unlikely to publicly commit to a project involving any Rovio IP before the deal is finalized, assuming anything concrete is even in the works right now.
