Ukrainian studio GSC Game World is working hard on the sequel to their survival horror first-person shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R., titled S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
It will be the first console release in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game in 13 years since the release of Call of Pripyat in 2009. It is scheduled for release on Microsoft Windows and the Xbox Series X/S.
It was announced when Call of Pripyat came out and was scheduled for release in 2012. However, it was scrapped that same year.
The project was revived in 2018, with Unreal Engine 5 powering the game’s relaunch. It was supposed to come out on December 8, 2022, but production was halted because of the conflict in Ukraine.
However, the team later announced on their official Discord server that they are still working on it and that a release date of 2023 has been planned.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl Development- After the official sales of the series exceeded 4 million copies worldwide, we had no qualms left to start building a new large game in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe,” said Sergiy Grygorovych, CEO of GSC Game World, when S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was announced in 2010 with a release date set in 2012.

In other words, this is the sequel that fans of our wildly successful game have been waiting for. The game’s development was ambitious, with promises including a brand-new multiplatform engine built from the ground up specifically for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.
