An accurate parody of the PlayStation 1 version of Dead Space has been created. The remake breathed new life into an old horror game, even though the 2008 original still looks fine. There is still money to be made in remaking older games, as evidenced by the current success of the Resident Evil 4 remake.
Nevertheless, the horror gaming genre as a whole is experiencing something of a golden era, with plenty of new titles still to come. The first Dead Space was a smash hit upon its release, helping to revitalize the survival horror subgenre at a time when stalwart series like Resident Evil were struggling with an identity problem.
Motive’s remake brought DS back to life and was as well appreciated as the original, but some in the fan community wonder how the game would fare if it were given a retro aesthetic.

Fraser Brumley, an independent developer, and Itch.io user have released a completely playable, albeit cosmetically old, version of Dead Space, as reported by Bloody Disgusting. For some time, dedicated fans have been working on this “demake,” a term for the reverse of a remake, and it is finally ready for distribution.
Visually, it appears to be identical to the official game in every way save for the graphics, which are reminiscent of the PS1 period. Brumley says there will probably be more projects like this in the future, and numerous comments on the page and YouTube playing vids heap praise on this demake.
