A Chinese Necromancer has been lucky, becoming the first Diablo 4 player to acquire the Grandfather. Diablo 4’s endgame doesn’t require the drop of one of the six highly uncommon Uniques to be completed. However, having one nonetheless significantly boosts character power that can’t be ignored.
In contrast to Diablo 3, which had relatively even tiers of Legendary items, the philosophy of Diablo 2 is more in line with games like Path of Exile, which have a level above even the most potent Legendaries and Uniques.
Unimaginably challenging to obtain, “Chase Uniques” were formerly listed by Lead Class Designer Adam Jackson as the game’s six rarest items, making up the treasure pool’s most profound tier. There have now been five confirmed drops of Chase Uniques worldwide, including two Harlequin Crests, an Andariel’s Visage, and a Doombringer. Although the Whirlwind Barbarian builds benefit the most from The Grandfather’s high stat rolls, all five classes in Diablo 4 can take advantage of the weapon’s power.
Drop information for the Grandfather from a Helltide cache was posted by user Icy-Heat7531 to the Diablo 4 subreddit, with an unofficial translation of the Chinese tooltips provided by user 0ne Two.
Only the Ring of the Starless Skies and the Melted Heart of Selig remains as undiscovered Chase Uniques. The present state of Diablo 4’s itemization is wrong because even the rarest Uniques can roll with terrible qualities.
Most rolls are useless as upgrades because of the prevalence of stats that emphasize Cooldown Reduction, Vulnerable, or Skill Ranks. It makes sense for common Uniques and Legendaries to be treated this way. However, many Diablo 4 players believe Chase Uniques should be exempt because of their extreme rarity.
