The Saints were close to starting the 2023 NFL season 3-0, but Derek Carr was unable to complete the game against the Packers in Week 3. The short-term cost to New Orleans was high, and the long-term consequences might be considerably worse.
In the third quarter of the New Orleans vs. Green Bay game, Carr sustained a shoulder injury. He was sacked by Rashan Gary on a third-down play and landed forcefully.
After taking the blow, the seasoned quarterback remained on the ground. After being hit, he remained on the ground and finally received care from the New Orleans medical professionals.

Carr eventually had enough strength to stand up and leave the field on his own. But shortly after, he was spotted making his way to the locker room, and according to the Fox broadcast, he was obtaining an X-ray on his shoulder. Carr was eventually listed as questionable to return by the Saints due to a shoulder injury, but he was later ruled out.
With a 17-0 lead, New Orleans replaced him with Jameis Winston but was unable to add any more points, allowing Jordan Love and the Packers to rebound for an 18-17 triumph. What remains to be seen is how long Carr will miss beyond this week.

Derek Carr’s injury update
Later, Carr was reportedly being brought to a nearby hospital for extra testing, including possibly abdominal injuries, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The Times-Picayune’s Luke Johnson says that Carr was able to board the team’s aircraft back to New Orleans, so his stay there was only brief.

Coach Dennis Allen of the Saints didn’t have much to say regarding Carr’s condition during his postgame press conference despite that development.
“It’s a shoulder injury,” Allen said. “He’s being evaluated. I can’t really tell you any more than that.”
Rapoport later stated that even though Carr might still be sidelined for a spell, his injury is not anticipated to end the season. Rapoport said that the quarterback is thought to have sustained only a sprained AC joint in his shoulder and no other injuries.
